Your Financial Freedom – “Secrets of the Millionaire Mind”

by Sharyn on August 29, 2010

It was very interesting to me that regardless of my subconscious fear held for decades of having too much money, I managed to build up my business to achieve for me a personal net worth of over $5million.

How could this be?    I have just been reading “Secrets of the Millionaire Mind” by T.Harv Eker, it gave some clues.

You may have read my story and how I built up a property development and construction company from scratch to success.    The strange thing was that while I kept my business strong financially,  personally I was a financial wreck as I had a subconscious belief that money brought ‘death and destruction’ due to something that happened when I was just seven years old.   A little boy was kidnapped and murdered after his parents won the lottery.   All my life I was affected unknowingly by the ingrain memory of my parents saying to each other in my presence “That little boy would be alive if his parents had not have won the lottery”.   The memory of the event had all but gone, but I was still seriously defected by my subconscious belief which had become a value in my life.

So back to the question, how could I still build up my business with this disempowering belief?

I knew something was wrong in my personal financial life;  I should have, I had studied Accountancy and even this did not help.  I thought that there was something that I just needed to learn.  So I studied every imaginable course, read every book I could find on the subject of personal finances.   Of course, building wealth was not my problem, it was managing it and keeping it.

Have you ever added up how much you have earned throughout your life and wondered, where has it gone!

In T.Harv Eker’s book “Secrets of the Millionaire Mind” he quotes author Josh Billings “It’s not what we don’t know that prevents us from succeeding; it’s what we know that just ain’t so that is our greatest obstacle”.  This is truely so important.    It gave me a light bulb moment!

How many of us know something in our conscious or unconscious mind that is affecting our lives – and this thing just is Not SO!  Not Accurate!  Not True!

What is this belief that is affecting your life?

If there is something that you want to achieve with your finances and have done all you can, learnt all you can, and it is just not happening, it is time to change the pattern and consider what are the things you KNOW – then challenge all of these things.

How can you do this, by working on your values, because your values are the things that you know, but your values are not necessarily working for you, they might be working against you.

It was in a seminar with the coach Paul Blackburn that I found I had a value that – Money meant Death!   When I questioned why I had this peculiar value, the story of the kidnapping came into my conscious mind from so long ago.

Problem solved – I have since been able to totally dispell this disempowering belief, this is now not one of my values, in fact my value for money now is that “Money means I can achieve better results for myself and also for others”.    And my other money value “Build up financial wealth, enjoy the process, enjoy the achievement, enjoy the results”.

So back to the question why was my business not affected initially by my disempowering value?

Another value which I had taken from my parents who had their own business, and my first partner, Keith Wong, a truly wonderful mentor for my early business success – “You must look after your business, see it separate to yourself, never take from it, always put back into it.   A business must be profitable in order for it to be successful, that profit belongs to the business and needs as much reinvested as possible”.   I did not see money in my business as being mine and therefore I was not threatened by it.      This value is an excellent value to have for business success.  Thank goodness I had this value while I was personally in such a struggle.

I will report more fully on the concepts in “Secrets of the Millionaire Mind” by T.Harv Eker, in future posts, but as a closing paragraph to his introduction –

“The lesson is simple.  If you want to move to a higher level of life, you have to be willing to let go of some of your old ways of thinking and being and adopt new ones.  The results will eventually speak for themselves.”

Come back for more information on the Millionaire Mind concepts.
